I've heard her first cd and didn't try to judge her until I became comfortable with her music. I hate it when an artist is compared to a well established artist like Bjork. They both are from Iceland but Emilana has more of a Jazz singer rhytmn to her music than Bjork with her experimental sense of humor. I love the songs Birds, Jungle Drum, Me and Armini, and Heard it All Before they have a reggae feel to it, Jungle Drum sounds a little like Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking" but she makes up a better comeback with her boogie down Jazz Scat after the Jungle Drum chrous.
A cool girl from a cool country , Emiliana Torrini emerged at the beginning of the decade with releases that flirt with folk , pop and electronica. " Me And Armini " is another fine piece of work for her catalogue. The fact that her cv includes contributions in both the Lord Of The Rings soundtrack and Kylie Minogue's hit list (. ) only proves that she's talented on many levels. " Big Jumps " is as catchy as they go , " Ha Ha " is heartfelt and depressing , " Jungle Drum " is fun and sexy while " Gun " with it's severe dark texture implies there is a side of her we only have yet caught a glimpse of. Although maybe not as eccentric as her fellow co-patriots Bjork and Sigur Ros , Torrini is still one of the most interesting female artists around , one to keep a close eye on for years to follow.
Well, this is just to add one more 5-star review to this truly wonderful record. Other reviewers have said it all. Too bad most people only care for "top 40" music and will never listen to such beauty.
The best album I heard this year.Better than the others. So, this is really mature, simple, elegant, it beats modern and particular.sounds good.the perfect album.Buy it please, do it for good good muzik. You'll thank me, sure.
Absolutely beautiful lyrics and very simple, almost minimal arragements. A lot of words could be used to describe this work, but there are a few that seem more apropiated: beautiful, inspiring, lovely, sweet. All the tracks are great, but for me, the greatest moments come with "Me and Armini", "Birds", "Heard it all before", "HA HA", "Hold Heart" and the absolutely beautiful final track, "Bleeder". For me, the most interesting thing in this new work by Emiliana Torrini is the fact that it shows an evolving style. Yes, still a beautiful, caressing voice, and in some points very mellow, but over all, more and more mature, more refined, more interesting, and, specially, deeper. Definetely, a must if you like Emiliana's style. It just let us wanting more and more.
